The face of the coin shows Gagarin the cramped quarters of the Vostok capsule. The reverse side says:

"Yuri Gagarin, a Russian, was shot into space with booster rockets at 9:07 a.m. on April 12, 1961 AD, orbited the earth once, and returned to earth at 10:55 a.m. the same day. He was the first man to travel in outer space."
